ICMA follow-up to quarterly report

ICMA staff called to discuss our quarterly project report. They asked a series of questions ranging from clarification to what we’d reported to probing questions to shape the outcomes assessment. Here is a sampling of what we were asked.

Q. What is “net metering”?

A. Net metering enables customers to use their own generation to offset their consumption over a billing period by allowing their electric meters to turn backwards when they generate electricity in excess of the their demand. See the U.S. Dept. of Energy’s  The Green Power Network for more information.

Q. What sort of reception/support has the project received from local elected officials?

A. Mayor Lioneld Jordan has been a huge champion of the project and has backed it with the involvement of Chief of Staff Don Marr and Sustainability Coordinator John Coleman. The City is looking at ways to duplicate the project. Although not an elected official, Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Steve Clark immediately recognized the economic development potential of the project and is also a strong supporter.

As we continue our work, ICMA asked us to be mindful of the following.

  1. How are “champions” created for a project?
  2. What do “champions” do?
  3. What would make the partnership between the library and the city stronger?
  4. What are the challenges to partnering between the library and the city?
